Google Photos
Assistant
My role
I was the sole designer from early concepting in 2014 to its transition to “For You” and finally moving the feature to the Memories carousel on the main grid.
Goal
As we were designing the Google Photos app, we needed a central place for all of the AI-driven creations that Google+ Photos had been known for.
Most people just take photos and let them sit in an ever-growing gallery. Rarely looking back on photos from the past except for particularly significant events, or when prompted by external factors to look for a particular photo.
The creations presented by the Assistant were meant to help users experience their photos in new ways, adding value to photos that might otherwise be forgotten.
Design system
I created the system of cards and flows for different suggestion types. These templates were used across the different Photos feature teams to integrate their features into the Photos Assistant.
